New Maps Added to 14ers.com Route Pages

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Tue Mar 08, 2005 8:24 pm

I've been adding a lot of functionality to the Maps page on the 14ers.com routes. This thread will summarize the additions. Each of the routes now have up to 6 different maps that provide helpful information about a peak, the route, and surrounding terrain. Here are the buttons that can be found on the Maps page for each route:

Image

Topo: The USGS topo map for the route. Route details are on the map.
Summit Zoom: A closer look at the summit using a USGS map.
3D Map: A 3D rendering of terrain with topographical contour lines and route details.
3D Satellite: Satellite terrain data superimposed on a 3D topographical map. Not all routes have a 3D Sat map yet.
2D Satellite (new): Black and white satellite images of the peak and surrounding terrain.
Area Map (new): A wider look at a peak and it's surrounding terrain. They have relief shading and contour lines to help define the area.
