Just summitted Longs last Friday. I was on vacation with the family and on an impulse, decided to try Longs on the last day there. Actually, from the deck of the house we rented for the week, Longs stared me in the face every morning.
We had tried Longs a couple of years ago and had to turn back for bad weather.
I summitted Longs 21 years ago. I remember it was the hardest thing I had ever done.
Left the trailhead at 1:45 am, BF at 5:00, keyhole at 6:00, summit at 8:00, trailhead at 1:30 pm. Got hailed on on the homestretch. A little scary at that point, but just said a prayer and kept going. Not bad for a flatlander from Illinois and 43 years old!!
I promised I would take my wife up next year. She wasn't quite ready mentally for it this year. When she went thru the keyhole two years ago, she just about freaked.
Have an interesting or epic climbing story? Post it here.
