Beaver makes to top of Mt Sherman 14036 ft

Postby Gurbi » Wed Apr 13, 2005 12:41 pm

it was 7th May 2003 that i and a group of friends decided to hike upto Mt Sherman.
we started from the trailhead at 9:00pm -it was a very clear and sunny day, we crossed a couple of snowfields , some frozen ponds and reached the peak at about 11:45pm.
we found some 10-15 people on the top, some of them were gabbing about a beaver - and we thought , ignorant kids - confusing marmots with beavers , after a while , curiosity getting better of me and my friends , we decided to check out this "Beaver" and holy moly -

it was actually a beaver with flat thick tail and webbed feet.

beaver looked a little dazed and confused and was just sitting there .
many people surrounded it and it did not know what to do about it - though it made growling noises if someone tried to come too close.
people threw it some apple bits but it ignored them . we called forest service and they said they will try and get it the next day.
poor guy hope he made it ok

how he made if to the top?
the only thing i can think of is that a golden eagle could have carried him off and later dropped them on top of Mt Sherman

Oh and I was going to make fun of you not knowing what a marmot was, but a good thing you posted the photo. Guess humans aren't the only ones who are peak baggers.

Great story and photo! That poor beaver!

Oh and yes, I'm sure the Forest Service got right on that. ;)

And I'm probably one of those types of novices who wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a beavor and marmot. :o
