Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Anyone have an update on Sniktau or Vasquez (south face) conditions? Looking to do one of these on Saturday, unless there is still a lot of snow and/or ice.

Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
I hiked up to Cupid last Saturday. I started around 8 am, finished around 1030 am and didn't need anything but boots. Here are some pics from Loveland Pass and on the way to Cupid to give you an idea of what Sniktau looks like.

Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Thanks, not quite as melted as I was hoping, but still might consider it.
Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Up there this a.m. - had hoped to go for Grizzly, but late start changed that plan.
Went to Cupid, then Sniktau.
Not quite as snowy as the pics above.
I did not need traction or snowshoes. Didn't even put my gaiters on.
Started around 0800, back to car at noon.
Minimal postholing.
If you start early, the snow is firm.
Hope that helps!
EDIT: Should have added you will be walking on or in snow most of the time and will need waterproof boots!

Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Here is a view of the south side of Vasquez. I took this from the Continental Divide on Sunday. I skied up and down several peaks from Hassell Peak to Point 12,673' above the West Fork of Clear Creek.
The Jones Pass road starts dry and then fully converts to snow before the clearing below 12,118' (about 8/10 mile in).

Thanks for the updates, I think I'll hit the incline this Saturday, and wait 2 more weeks for anything higher.

Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Does anyone have any more recent pictures or updates of this route? I'm thinking about this one as a possibility for tomorrow (6/27). Is it dog friendly? I have a lab that really wants to put his pack on.

Re: Sniktau and Vasquez conditions
Last Saturday, we hiked up Sniktau and over to Grizzly. No issues whatsover with going to Sniktau. There were a couple of steep snow stretches when going to Grizzly that we bypassed going over some boulders. One other couple went through the steeper snow with their dog and didn't seem to have any problems.
