Postby FireOnTheMountain » Sun Jul 01, 2012 5:11 pm

Hey Hey

Just wondering if anyone could provide me with some beta on this traverse.

Lookin to do it with no rope, advice or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

I've heard it can be done w/o pro or rope but make sure your route-finding is spot on.
Also heard it's loose as hell. But who knows.

Someone JUST put up a route page for it over on SP. Kinda chincy though.
Maybe 2-3 helpful hints, nothing more than what common sense will tell ya.
Have a look.

Maybe you're aware, but this traverse is in Dave Cooper's scrambles book. I recall him mentioning some really unstable rock on portions of it, and some obligatory 5.7 climbing. I believe that going in the Fletcher to Atlantic direction allows a rap of these sections...but don't quote me on that.

Kiefer - thanks, did provide a few helpful things I think
Stone - didn't know it was a Cooper scramble, unstable rock definetly seems like the theme of the ridge, at least its short

Thanks for the responses

I think the Cooper entry is the "Mayflower Grand Traverse" (or something of the like) and it describes a traverse of the entire cirque not just the Fletcher-Atlantic traverse, but it is a pretty in depth description. I think Cooper describes it as the most dangerous route in the book as well.
The mountains - whose summits reach or exceed arbitrary thresholds for elevation and prominence - are calling and I must go.
