Fourth Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer!

Need a climbing partner? Trying to form a hiking group for an outing?

Should we cancel or change the date due to winds?

Poll ended at Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:04 pm

1. Let's not cancel. Winter and wind go go together. Still down for Saturday!

2. Yes, let's cancel. Gusts to 55 mph are not my idea of a welcomer. Besides, I'm not very experienced, and I'd like something mellow to start out.

3. I'd really like to go, but maybe conditions will be better next weekend. I'd be down for Nov 3 or 4.

Would like to meet everyone and do Quandary another time. Sustained winds over 30 mph and gusts >50 mph with new and blowing snow just doesn't sound fun. The wind chill looks pretty bad too. It doesn't sound like good conditions particularly if there are a lot of inexperienced people going. I vote for another weekend.

I'm still in for sure on Saturday

I've spent a good portion of my retirement funds on gear. LOL I'm still in.

I'm out. The winds just don't sound conducive to a fun teaching and learning experience for various skill levels. Maybe next weekend.

I'm in....sounds like similar conditions to last year. Last year, I clocked wind on the summit at 55MPH gusts. Also, one can always turn around if it gets too bad. Something I have done a few times.

The Chalks are still down for Saturday, though I do agree that it may not be that fun for the newbies looking to get out and have a enjoyable day.

I'm still in. I spent a lot of money on gear for winter conditions.

I was starting to waffle, but now I'm definitely in. 110 percent.

Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Seems like these would be ideal conditions for a beginner...a good reality check. And, use your savvy to know when to turn around. I'm looking forward to it. :)

You can touch the void, just don't fall into it.

I voted for next weekend. Only cause I can't make this weekend.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
