Crestone Peak, 4/30/11

Postby tmathews » Thu Apr 21, 2011 6:01 am

I want to make a bid for Crestone Peak's summit next weekend, 4/30, and would really like to have a partner or two. Of course, this will all be weather dependent. It'll likely be a really long day. Any masochists interested in joining me for this sufferfest?

I might be up for that depending on when you start. How long do you figure time wise?

Hey, Jacob,

It's probably not in the books for me. Because we'll be starting below the Rainbow Trail, you're probably looking at 15-17 miles RT. That's plenty for me as a day trip without having to summit another peak.

tmathews,

FYI--You should be able to get a vehicle to the parking lot about 1/3 mile above the Rainbow trail.

Oh, awesome. Hopefully, it'll be melted out even more by then. Thanks, Bob!

Would you be interested in doing two days and camping at the lakes to try for both?

Anyone have any idea of snow (and/or ice) on the Ellingwood route right now? Anyone with any interest in doing it when conditions permit?

I would be interested in Crestone this weekend! Me and a buddy made an attempt on Challenger on 4/22 only to be turned around near willow lake due to gnarly cloud/fog coverage on the summit and pretty gusty winds which lingered all day . The snow in the Sangres is quite limited especially compared to the Sawatch's. Jaw, I would be interested in camping 2 days and hittin up 2 peaks.

FireOnTheMountain,

I can see about the entire Sangre Range from our home and it's socked in.

The Peak, Needles and Humboldt are totally in the clouds.

Jacob -- it's just going to be a day trip. Camping is not in the cards for me, but don't let that deter you from heading up there with other partners.
