Tried to reply to your PM but it appears to be stuck in the outbox. Not sure what I did wrong.

On the descent we used crampons/ice axe from the summit to where we dropped into the gulley. The snow was pretty soft by 8:30 and crampons were definitely useful but not necessary on the descent. I would definitely recommend the ice axe.

You didn't do anything wrong. Messages just sit in the outbox until the receiver reads it...

I just spoke with someone at Aspen Alpine Guides, who was up on N Maroon this past Saturday. He says the overall condtions were dangerous, and they were using ropes to descend the standard route. The upper ridge is still covered with snow and ice, and the gulleys have patches of snow/ice. The problem isn't so much the gulleys but the summit ridge. He advises that this is a technical climb right now and that all but skilled climbers should hold off for a few weeks. At the very least ice axe and crampons are required.
I think I will wait as my snow/ice climbing skills are not the best and this peak is just too dangerous for me right now. I am probably heading to Chi Basin, probably Thursday to be in Durango on Friday morning to try to catch better weather.

Agreed. I can wait for better conditions. Crazy year for snowpack. Would still like to attempt this, maybe late August or so? Let's keep an eye on conditions and plan accordingly.

Thanks for the update!

I'm interested in N Maroon on Friday, August 19th (or Fri, Aug 5th). The best way for me would be to drive up Thursday evening, car camp and head out 3 am-ish

Let me know

Mid August is open for me as well. Please keep me in the loop for your plans as I would love to check N Maroon off my list this year.

Thanx!

I would totally be down to get in on this trip! Is August still what is being planned?
