Little Bear- Feb. 25th

Postby Kiefer » Wed Feb 16, 2011 7:06 pm

This is weather dependent of course, but I had to shuffle around my days off (weekend) and I'm looking at heading
down to attempt Little Bear on Feb. 25th. (Friday). It'll only be a day trip.

If anyone is interested in joining me, leave a PM or post. I do plan on bringing a rope and harness to rap the Hourglass. Safer then downclimbing
mid-season [steep] snow.
Hopefully the weather cooperates! [-o<

Thanks, Melon! Hoping a light and fast approach will do the trick. Gonna stash some gear at the entrance to
Chokecherry Cyn to further reduce weight higher up.

Jaw825 and myself will be leaving the 'bottom-ish' of the road sometime around 2:00am, give or take. Hoping to make the top of the ridge
by 6:00-7:00am.
Weather looks good down there for Friday albeit windy.
Hopefully ya can make it ulvetano!

Keifer - I'm out. I had hoped to, but I'm still hobbling around today after my marathon on sunday. I think I'd bonk hard out there. next time. have a great time!

I do plan on bringing a rope and harness to rap the Hourglass. Safer then downclimbing
mid-season [steep] snow.

Hey Kiefer, we climbed it this same weekend a couple years ago... if I repeat the route I would carry the rope a little higher up (we stashed it at the top of the hourglass when we did it)... we found 50 degree ice above the rap station that was a comfortable free ascent for ~150 feet or so... however it was a little dicey to downclimb. I had to three-point downclimb it very very slowly above nice exposure. My partner skied it with an ice tool in one hand. We wished we'd carried the rope further so we could rap the upper part. Have fun man.

Prakash, I saw your TR while researching LB for the ascent last month. Whoa. Quite the "manly" effort, and an engaging read! Kudos.
