I've called the sheriff, county roads, post office, Woody, and a lady who lives at (but can't get to ), Duck lake, and Georgetown Visitor Center. The consensus is that the road is closed Quite low, possible making the RT distance over 20 miles. That is not what I intended when I chose to save this peak for my final winter 14er. The weather and temps are predicted to be quite reasonable but, still, the trip would only be reasonable for the very fit.
Summitlounger is willing to drive up Friday morning following plowing and get a definitive answer about the overall length. I'll post Friday evening and everyone can make their own final decisions.
A 2nd plan will have me attempting from Deer Creek TH via County Road 43 using Rosalie or Tanglewood trails and then over Epaulet mountain. This trip is about 16 miles, 5000'; still no gimme.
My brother and another western slope friend (not normally winter hikers) intend to join me, so the pace will not be fast, but I really intend to finish if possible.
Again, I'll post Friday evening and everyone can make their own final decisions.
