So very sorry for your loss. This reminds me to make every encounter I have with someone on the mountain a positive one. Sounds like Mike lived that.

John, Ben, and the rest of Mike's family and friends: I am so sorry for your loss. I have never met Mike, but I wish I had. I love the photo of him on the summit of Humboldt Peak. In his smile and fist pump I can see his true love for climbing mountains, and his joy in living life to its fullest. I pray that you will all find comfort and strength in each other, and that God will give you peace as you grieve the tragic loss of your brother/father/friend.

Many condolences to all who knew and loved him. It was with a heavy heart that from the summit of Kit Carson I watched the helicopter take off from the valley floor yesterday morning. It is another reminder to never take life for granted and to express your love daily. Rest in peace.

I am so sorry. I was on KC/Challenger on Sunday when the SAR chopper was searching. It sounds silly, but when you are on the mountain you feel a certain kinship with someone in danger.

RIP, Mike.

Mike contacted me last year after seeing a Nova Scotia flag in one of my pictures. I’m from Lunenburg and had never done a fourteener with someone else from Nova Scotia before. So it was a first when my wife Dorthe and & I summited Quandary with Mike on Jan 14, 2012. Mike was really passionate about the mountains and liked to discuss a lot of topics. He talked about his sons and his family in Antigonish. We met again on Quandary Jan 19 of this year.

John, Joseph, Colin, Steve & Matthew and the Cormier family. I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t have any words to soften this blow. About the only thing I can relate is the mountains are like sea. Growing up by the coast I knew people, including my brother, for whom the sea was in their blood. When a ship was lost, we felt it as a community. Even if we didn't personally know someone on board, we knew someone who did. The fourteeners are like that. These past few years have been especially rough for our community. We will think of Mike when we climb. Our condolences to your family and friends.
