+1 on Scott P's suggestion of Columbia Bugaboot or equivalent low cost snow boots with 200g of Thinsulite. The comfort rating of -25 degrees is spot on for my feet. You probably won't be needing a technical mountaineering boot that has a stiff shank to give rigidity for cramponing. I have been perfectly happy with boots that cost ~$50 after STP coupons. They work well with microspikes or snowshoes. Also you don't look as ridiculous walking around town or shoveling your driveway. You might not have as much swag when using them on winter 14ers trips compared to the brightly colored competition, but extra $$$ in your pocket makes up for the lack of hiking fashion.
