I still wear boots. I need the ankle support that trail runners cannot provide.
Life is too short to pay full retail for outdoor gear!

I wear Merrell Wilderness boots, imo the finest hiking boot ever made. I have been hiking for 32 years, my ankles need the support of a boot, Ive rolled them both to many times to count and broke my right on Shavano.

I use lightweight desert mid ankle boots. Gotta keep those ankles safe. Also I need a heavy sole so that sharp talus doesn't hurt my foot. I've tried tennis shoes before and my foot sole aches afterwords

3-season mountaineering - La Sportiva Trango Alps (they can take crampons for winter/spring) or Asolo FSN 95's for CL I routes with packs.

My preferred 14er shoe will always be the Chaco. I think I've done about 25 of my 14ers in them. Lightweight, good for creek crossings, have perfect sole flexibility for rock hopping, and let your feet breath. My style of hiking. I think I'm going to pass on using them for the "more difficult" peaks such as the Crestones, Maroon Bells, LB, etc. I'm not sure which shoe is preferred for those kind of climbs actually..

I've definitely gotten a lot of crap about wearing the Chacos over the years lol "no ankle support, no warmth, overall worthless". To each his own (as is my conclusion to every discussion on these forums)

The biggest issue with boots is weight. Hi-Tec has done a good job of finding a low-cost (<$100) solution to this for boot-wearers like me.
I need more dehydrogenase.
