cheapest time-lapse capable camera

Postby pvnisher » Wed Sep 05, 2012 4:17 am

What's the cheapest (or thereabouts) camera with time-lapse capability?
And of course I mean automatic time-lapse. Not sitting by the camera and pushing a button every 3 minutes for 12 hours. Or recording 4 hours of video then speeding it up.

Anyone use something like this?

Just buy any Canon Camera and use CHDK to hack the software. You can add an intervalometer to pretty much any Canon Camera with this. Plus the hack just resides on the memory card. Switch to a memory card without the hack and it's back to it's factory settings.

If you aren't willing to try that, you can pick up a GoPro relatively cheap.

Another option is a smartphone app. I use iMotion HD on my iPhone and it works great. The only complaint is that it does use quite a bit of battery life. For the cost (FREE), it surely can't be beat.

If nothing else you could get an old/cracked screen smartphone for cheap and make it your go to time lapse camera.
