Indeed. No bugling yet which makes me nervous for Sept. 8-16.

Hey Bill, what does "and how!" mean? I always wonder when people say that... I even use it from time to time, but it comes off more like Ron Burgandy saying "when in Rome..."

Emphasised since I've been out bow hunting for elk this week.

3 weeks ago we were camped near S Colony lakes and a bowhunter in head to toe camoflage creeped through our campsite in the early afternoon stalking a bighorn sheep we saw 5 minutes prior. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen while hiking a 14er.

Well, the Urban Dictionary is pretty much the last source citation I would expect to see from Bill in reference to archery in a thread about hunting! But, I've learned a new phrase so who am I to complain.
"On the edge of the porch in the warm evening night
Throwing the bone for the dog I see two passing lights
Well, I wonder where that driver's bound
Is there someone, somewhere, someway out there that I've not found"

On the road to Shav last Saturday (opening day archery) 4 elk including a terrific 6 point bull walked across the road not 30 ft from my car. Getting excited for our Elk hunt 3rd season rifle. Got a nice bull last year north of Gunnison on Flattop mtn.

I've read on other sites that there is some bugling going on. Plus, it's always quiet until mid September anyways.

Don't forget about goat and sheep seasons, they are open right now too. Can't wait to chase billies starting on 9/17. :-D

3rd season rifle makes me want to throw on a down layer as I type. I can move all winter not thinking about the cold, but a long sit in late CO fall is frigide. Good mountaineering training I guess. Awesome for you! Post a photo.

Though I am not a "lets go shoot everything" guy, hunting sure is a great way to pass time until snow falls.

In Evergreen you can just get your Elk at the golf course or unlit road at night.
