There was an incident last year of hiker getting lost overnight near Monarch pass.
He was with his small dog. he broke into a restroom and weathered a sub-zero evening.
But the poor animal did not make it, for unclear reasons.

Simple idea a vet. told me and I've posted here before. Add some vegetable oil to their diet (1-2 tablespoonfuls). Gives 'em a little boost of energy to help fight off the cold.
