Hi.

I just tested the 14ers app on the new Android Jellybean 4.1, and it repeatably crashes when I click on a few Route buttons for a few mountains.

In particular:

Mt. Bierstadt: West Slopes (Standard)
Bierstadt, Sawtooth, Evans (Combo)
Mt. Lincoln: Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, Bross (Standard) (Combo)

It does seem to be pretty much anything with (Standard) or (Combo) in the title, but I haven't tested all of them.

I work for Google in Boulder, and I'm happy to help test and debug in any way.

I see two recent crash reports with a note indicating that it crashed on Jellybean; I assume those are yours.

If you have additional stack traces those would probably be useful as well -- you can send them to me using the androidapp@14ers.com address.

None of my code is present in the stack trace, so I assume it's something that has changed in Android, perhaps a deprecated component or method or something. I guess I'll install Jellybean on the emulator and see if I can chase it down.

Thanks for letting me know!

Hey Nathan, I'm having the same issue with the app on Jellybean. When I click the route description it force closes the app. Just thought I'd mention it so that you knew it wasn't just an isolated incident for olhado47. Feel free to PM me if you want any other info or assistance with testing fixes.

I've identified the issue: apparently starting with Jellybean SpannableText doesn't like certain span lengths, so all of the routes that were failing were those with the small icon to indicate a GPS coordinate. It's a simple fix, and I'll try to push the updated version to the market tonight or tomorrow (GMT). This update will also include the ability to move the app to the SD Card.

Thanks a lot for the quick turnaround!

And since I forgot to say it in the original post, the app is extremely useful and very well done. Thanks!

Thank you for finding the bug!

I've just uploaded the fix to the market, it should propagate out within the next day or so. Let me know if the fix doesn't work for you--I've only got the emulator to test it on, not an actual device.

Thanks.
The fix seems to get almost all of the problems.
There's still one that causes a crash though that I was able to find from random clicking.

If I click on [Peaks][Longs Peak][Keyhole Route (Standard)] I can get it to crash reliably.

I got it up and running flawlessly (so far) on my GS-I, and love it, however....

is there any thought to including the 13ers at some point? or a separate app? or for that matter, something like an RMNP module/data-set for the same app...

just some thoughts.

Bill,

Are there any plans to add a Forum section and a trip report section to the mobile app. Obviously they would only be available for updating while you have a connection so they wouldn't help its backcountry functionality but when I go into the mountains for the weekend I don't bring a laptop and using the standard page through my phone browser is always just slightly less 'enjoyable' when I need to check for a route or find some beta that I forgot or missed on the way out. Also I find it a pain to find a non-standard route on the website that I want to take but then its not on the phone app(possibly for liability issues?). Is there a way maybe you could integrate these non-standard routes onto the app or is this something thats already in the works and just hasn't been done yet? Otherwise the app is great and I use it all the time, just wish it had these additions.

Sorry, no plans to add forum or trip reports at this time.

Regarding user-contributed routes: Lots of non-standard routes are included but only the "user-contributed" ones from the site are not included in the mobile app. This is a big difference because there are a lot of non-standard routes included in the app. At some point I hope to include the user-contributed routes but have a few hoops to jump through first.
