- A mountain is not a checkbox to be ticked
- Alpinism and mountaineering are not restricted to 14,000 foot mountains
- Judgment and experience are the two most important pieces of gear you own
- Being honest to yourself and others about your abilities is a characteristic of experienced climbers
- Courage cannot be bought at REI or carried with you in your rucksack

Up on Quandary yesterday. Rained when we got to the summit so the trek back down was awesome for some wildflowers!

Thanks, Matt! I'm trying. The transition to the D7000 hasn't been easy - I'm still learning how to shoot with it. It is a much different camera from my D90 in capability and results. Lucky for me, the beautiful IPW provides the very best classroom.

I like what you've been doing with yours. Reaching the top at sunrise takes great motivation and the results appeared to be well worth the effort. Nicely done!

Thx Kimo! Isn't the d7000 a fun camera! I need more lenses! I saw you were shooting with a 50mm f/1.8? Jealous.

The infamous nifty fifty...nope, I don't own one. Just haven't found a need for it yet. I carry a Nikon 35mm f1.8 G as my fast prime. It's a bargain at ~$200 new. The wider angle is more versatile than the 50mm for landscapes. And the 35mm works okay in double-duty as a wide portrait lens on our crop-sensor DX bodies (roughly equivalent to 50mm on full-frame body).

But the nifty fifty 1.8 is well loved by many and a true bargain. I've seen the D-version on CL for $80.

Have you considered renting lenses? Prophotorental.com in Boulder offers fair prices with minimal deposit. I've rented a number of gold-band lenses from them over the past year and always had a good experience. The 105mm f2.8 macro is hands down my favorite Nikon lens so far. It's tack sharp and built like a tank. Hope to have one someday.
