Hi all-
I've got my first free time in FOR-EV-ER tomorrow and I'm looking for a moderate hike. I was thinking of maybe Chasm Lake or Devil's Head Lookout. Does anyone know current conditions on Long's trail up to Chasm lake, or road conditions to Devil's Head Lookout trail? I don't have any snow gear, and I'm in a passenger car, so if those are too snowy/icy/rough, then I'll do something with easier access like Staunton or Roxborough. Thanks!

In my experience, the road to Devils Head is usually gated off this time of year, so I'm not sure you'd be able to drive all the way to the TH. I don't know if they close it until May or if I just got unlucky a couple of times.

Rampart Range Road is closed every year roughly Dec through Apr. If you don't mind a longer day (~12-14mi RT) Devil's Head is doable from the gate closure on Jackson Creek Road, most of which is hiking on the road which will be packed by ATVs and snowmobiles or melted out (i.e. relatively easy for foot travel), but you may have a mile or so of trailbreaking once you get to the DH trail itself as it doesn't see much traffic in the winter.

Thanks for the info! I'll scratch Devil's Head Lookout off my list until summer. Anyone with info on Chasm Lake?
I'm getting a late start, so I'll probably just go somewhere like Roxborough, but any info about the Long's Peak trail would be good since I could make some plans for my next free weekend (whenever that might be).
