Not sure if you can or would want to park along the road (especially with snow coming). Day parking could be done at the Aspen Highlands Ski Area (where the Bell's Bus stop is) 2 mile walk to the gate closure. Overnight parking at the Highlands may be prohibited. So you'd better check first

Those planning multi day could park at the Brush Creek & 82 "Transfer Lot" aka Intercept Lot. Catch bus or MountainHigh Taxi from there. Bus would get you to Highlands parking. Cell service can be "suspect" beyond the Highlands parking area FYI

For what it's worth, Aspen decided to open the gondola for free this weekend as a consolation for Maroon Creek road being closed. Doesn't help with the hiking access but provides some nice aspen viewing.

Headed up to Maroon Lake on the 13th and the road was open all the way up to the overflow parking lot, about a half mile from the lake. No park rangers manning the gate, just an open road up to the barriers. Parking was a little crazy amidst the anarchy but we were just glad it wasn't totally shut down. There are still some aspens hanging on in the area although the ones around the elevation of the lake and higher are pretty well spent. At first we were bummed that we didn't see any moose around the lake but saw Bullwinkle in west maroon creek on the drive down.. it was great.

Enjoying the full moon by the lake...
IPA's with killer views...
Then with a bunch of wiggling we destroyed both Bells and Pyramid...

Was just there on the weekend. The road was open all the way to Maroon lake. You need to bring cash since the parking passes are self-serve at $10/car.

While nobody liked the government shutdown, perhaps the so called tea partiers where correct in wanting to delay (or kill) Obamacare.
