I'm contemplating a hike on Uncompaghre at the end of the month, but am concerned about the road. It seems, from the reports on this website, that vehicles like a Subaru Outback can't go further than the 2WD trailhead, which would translate to a 15 mile hike. Is it possible for an Outback to navigate the 4WD road and park at the upper TH? I'm concerned that members of my group won't be able to manage the longer hike but that the hike starting from the 4WD trailhead might be doable since it'd be shorter.
Thanks so much!

Yes, I think you could do it. I have seen outbacks there before. Just last year, my wife and I made it up there in our 2005 Honda CRV with 8.1 inches of clearance. So take that into consideration. Have fun!
Two years ago did it in my Forester without issue.
