You can get a spray at Home Depot (or similar stores) that will help deter critters. I think it has some sort of animal urine in it. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but one of my buddies got something for when we did Sneffels last summer (a notoriously bad spot for marmot damage). I'm sure a quick Google would provide the answer.
