Peak ID and Ski Question

Postby Voodoo302 » Wed Sep 25, 2013 9:57 am

I stared at this saddle all last spring and now there's snow on it again so...probably time to figure out where it is and how to ski it (although the latter probably won't happen until spring). Am I correct that this is the saddle between North and South Arapaho peaks? I have a good pic with labels but the perspective is a little different.

Having ID'd the area, it looks like there are a few good lines through there, anyone have any beta? Lines, particular avy concern, etc.? Obviously I'm not looking to ski it this weekend, just trying to get some beta on something I've been thinking about.

I'm 95% sure your assesment is right.

However, that's the City of Boulder Watershed (Arapaho Glacier) and is off limits, unfortunately.
The mountains - whose summits reach or exceed arbitrary thresholds for elevation and prominence - are calling and I must go.

100% correct. And yes - off limits.

You can hike the saddle, but you can't ski the glacier.

I am unable to walk away from the mountain without climbing it. An unclimbed mountain tugs at my consciousness with the eternal weight of time itself. Until I've pressed my face into it's alpine winds, hugged it's ancient granite walls, and put it's weathered summit beneath my heal I'm unable to resist it's attraction.Knowing nature gives the mountain more time than she gives us adds urgency to the obsession. As has been said before; the mountain doesn't care.

It can wait forever. I cannot.
