Sarah Burke in Critical Condition

I'm a Winter X Games fan ... always have been. I was happy to see Kevin Pearce get back on his board in December. Very sad news about Sarah today training for the upcoming games.
As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM

She was doing something that she loved when injured.

Speedy recovery, Sarah.

The result could still be quite severe depending on how much bleeding occurred, where in the brain it occurred, and for how long. It's impossible to predict at this point what and how much she will recover, but I'm staying optimistic until proven otherwise. Hang in there!!!!!!

It's a sad day.

Very sad day for the skiing world. Thoughts with family and friends...
"But it doesn't matter if your in Valdez skiing out of a helicopter, or putzing around on a flat hill somewhere in Iowa. That adrenaline rush comes when you satisfy your most basic instinct, your own search for freedom."
