Current Wilson Pk. & Silver Pick Basin snow conditions, 4-27

I was playing on Wilson Peak’s NW face yesterday and took some photo I thought I would share….

Yesterday I drove up Silver Pick rd. to the usual winter snow closure (~9,400ft. & ~ 1.8 mi. below the upper gate) from here I walked up the road .5 mi. where I clicked in and began my skin up into Silver pick basin. Snow coverage was continuous beyond the Wilson Mesa Trail intersection. I skinned up to ~13,500ft. on Wilson Peak’s NW face.

At 2:30 pm Wilson‘s NW face skied well, stiff wind affected powder down to about 12,800ft., between 12.800ft. & 12,600ft. I hit a small patch of breakable crust. At 12,600ft The basin's snow transitioned into a mix of mashed potatoes and corn and depending on aspect. Below the upper gate things got progressively sloppy.

Enjoy your spring skiing,
Ken

Does this mean the Silverpick Basin TH "issue" is now resolved?

Nice pics~
We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

If you are on snow...are you on his land?

Kidding really....but that boy is from Texas. In the summertime I think the other approaches are far more scenic anyway.

Ken, Thanks for the Wilsons update, and PM, enjoyed your summer report from Slate Creek. I'm headed that way this weekend if you are interested in Mt. WIlson from Slate Cr.

Good luck on Mount Wilson, I'm very interested in doing that peak from Slate Creek as well, probably not this year, but some year.
