Anyone have any information on trails for this? I can't find anything. Just doing some research on various options near CB. This peak looks cool and I was just curious if it was a good hike or not. Thanks in advance.

Here's the std trail:

I climbed Avery Peak over Labor Day weekend of 2012. We used the TR Presto mentioned as our only route description and it was helpful, although we felt like we were exploring since that TR didn't provide a lot of info. I'm heading out of the town this weekend, so if you're not planning to climb it this weekend I'll be glad to share more pics and info when I get back.

It's a unique climb. Very fun and well worth it. Also, if you have time (we didn't since we had to get back to our families in Gunnison), there's a connecting ridge from the summit to adjacent peaks that you could explore before returning to the Avery summit or you could descend from the adjacent peaks into the basins below before returning to the TH (might require some trail blazing).

Really appreciate the information. The target will be this weekend to do this, but if we don't do it this weekend it won't be my only trip to this region this summer. I love CB area and try to make it down 3-4 times. Weather will probably drive which peak we do. If its a potential for rain it looks like this peak may be a little sketchy. Not sure we have the experience for that scrambling if it got wet. Teocalli may be our better option if the chance of rain looks to high.

There is a description of this hike (as well as others in the Gunni and CB areas) on pages 46-48 in Timber, Talus & Tundra by Mary Anne Tarr.
Scrambling up that beautiful face is only one part of that route to Avery's summit. You have to continue along the ridge at the top of the face to actually be on the summit of Avery.

Very true. I have friends who have ridge hiked to all 8 or 9 "summits" of Avery. In the end, though, the 300' rule police would say that Avery isn't a summit at all, but just high points along a ridge that leads to the official (by the 300' rule) peaks of Cassi and Golden Tops
