10th Mountain System Trails

Post by Tory Wells »

Anybody skied or snowshoed on the 10th Mountain Division Huts System trails between Leadville and Vail recently? I've been wanting to head up there for a long day of nordic skiing but I'm wondering if there is still enough snow to make it worth my while. Please and thank you kindly.

Since no one else is biting, my conditions are about two weeks old now so I'm sure it has changed. I did the Jackal Hut [above Camp Hale] for a few days. Up high it was bullet proof crust until the sun warmed it a bit. Lower elevations [just out of the trees] the road was patchy bare, and below that - forget it. There was some pretty decent snow on the north aspects and in the trees, but anywhere that got much sun was getting thin or icy.

Thanks Shaun, maybe they'll get some decent snow out of the storm over the next two days and a wednesday ski will be possible. Cheers!
