South Table Mesa in Golden

Post by Skeeter Westgate »

Can you walk/hike/bike across the top (W - E) of South Table Mesa in Golden, w/o crossing any private property or such? Perusing Google Earth and Maps, it looks like there are trails or dirt roads across the top, but there is a Highway Patrol track up there and what appears to be a shooting range too. I've seen mountain bikers up there, but don't know if they can go all the way across and avoid trespassing.

Thanks.

They've been experimenting with alternate day hiking or biking use of some of the trails.

I live in the apartments just against the southern end of South Table and I am up on Table numerous times a week. I did not know they were starting alternating days of hiker/bikes and haven't noticed any changes recently, so that's interesting if they are. There are a ton of trails up there to keep you busy hiking, running or biking and you won't have a problem with private property issues assuming your not jumping barbwire fences, etc. The CSP track is completely fenced off and there is one specific trail that goes between the NW portion and the SE portion of which both areas are the public land (generally speaking). Last year in the SE corner they "developed" the trails to, I hope, put the trails on public land. If that was not the underlying reason then it was a complete waste of money. I say this because their work created many relatively parallel trails by eliminating the old, which are still being used, and creating the new. The work also caused significant damage to the land with trucks and equipment just so there could be 3 foot wide gravel "trails". It is, however, a nice place for an afternoon workout or a short hike.

The knapsack of custom falls off his back with the first step he makes into these precincts. Here is sanctity which shames our religions, and reality which discredits our heroes."

Eric - I gotta agree. It doesn't seem like S. Table gets that much use to warrant specific hiking/biking days, but then again, I'm not up there all that often!!

Agreed. I only go up there on occasion, but hardly ever seen anyone when I do.

I start from the apartments where E-dorvs lives. I've run up and across the messa well over 40 times in the past 2 years and I have never had any issues. I like the new trail they put in. It makes it easier to spot snakes while you run.
