Mapping Personal 14er List?

Postby thebeave7 » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:42 am

Not a problem and I have no clue how feasible this is, but it would be neat to be able to click on someone's 14er checklist and have a link to a map that shows "completed" as one color and "left to climb" as another. In the same format as the main 14ers map that shows all the peaks. http://www.14ers.com/map.php

Not sure how much programming this would take, or how easy it would be to integrate it into the site for all the users, but just a suggestions. I just bring this up because I was trying to figure out where all the peaks I have left to complete reside, and which one's are easily lumped into similar trips.

It's already a thing. Go to someone's checklist, and in the upper right-hand corner you'll see "14ers on basic map" under "Other Options for this User."

Sweet, thanks guys for the link. It seemed like something that might exist, but that I just couldn't find within the hundreds of links and extensions on the site.
That's a nice map 49ersRule, peak overload, though being a map junky I can appreciate all the data mapped out.

49ersrule - nice map! Lots of peaks... I did something similar using google maps for my peaks over 12K: http://otinasadventures.com/index.php?map=co_map

I use xml files and google, so there are few variation within my site, based on what I'm looking at.

Probably not, just realized I haven't done a ranked 13er in the San Juans or Elks. That is beyond lame.

Lists of John does the same thing as well. You can do all your peaks, 14ers, county peaks, wilderness areas or whatever.

For the 14ers.
http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/gmape.php?s=CO&e=14

13ers.
http://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/gmape.php?s=CO&e=13

County summits.

etc, etc, etc.

I see Furthermore is nearly finished with the 13ers. I believe he has reports for most of them, that will be a nice collection.

As far as maps with your peak lists, google makes it all easy. You can get that all into your smartphone via several different apps, "Mymaps" or "Backcountry Navigator" for example. What has Apple done for climbers?

Also can be done for your GPS, at LOJ you can easily make many different file types of your lists for importing to your devices or maps like Topo!. I'm sure Bill could do that as well and maybe he has, I haven't explored everything here.

When updating your 13er or 14er list on 14ers.com, there's an "Export to File" option on the upper right. Currently, it only supports KML and CSV formats but does provide flexibility on the list export (14ers, 13ers, climbed, not climbed, unranked peaks, etc.). If you use MS Excel, the CSV format provides a quick way to export your peaks (or all the peaks) to a spreadsheet and will indicate ones you've climbed.

At some point I'll add .GPX and .TPO file formats...
