Homepage peak photos

Postby tmathews » Mon Jun 08, 2009 3:19 pm

Hi, Bill,

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but the homepage peak photo doesn't seem to want to load up for me. I've tried it in IE, Chrome, and in Firefox, but get the same results. The photos seem to want to load like a Flash graphic or maybe Javascript, but just sits at 100% and never loads up.

Here's a screen cap:

Sounds like it's maybe a Flash Player version issue on your computer.
1) Do you know what version of Flash Player you're running?
2) Do you see Flash animations on other sites?

If you want the latest, it can be downloaded here

It could also be a security setting in your browser, but if it's happening in all browsers, it sounds more like a Flash version thing.

Anyone else having this problem??
Thanks

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. It works once if I refresh the display settings, but if I click back to 14ers.com from a different website it won't load.

Hmm, does it bring up the photo if you hit the Refresh key/button?

I've tried it on 5 different computers with different operating systems and browsers (new and old) and I can't replicate that problem.

What OS and browser are you using?

Doesn't work with refresh, just if I change the display settings, and then only once. I've tried in on Firefox 3.0 and IE 7.0. I've got Windows XP.

That's strange, I'm running OS X and the images are coming up just fine.

Mine has been this way for two days now I think. I use Firefox too, but it doesn't work in IE 8 for me either.

BTW, is 14ers.com experiencing cpu/network load today? Forum pages take about 5 or even more seconds to load, compared to their normal, zippy, kick-ass-behind-the-scenes-admin speed. ;)

Wow, that is weird. Pictures upload fine on www.14ers.com, but not when 14ers.com is typed in the browser for both IE and Firefox.

I've also had slower loading pages today.

The slowness of the site and the Flash photos on the homepage are two different issues:
1) The slowness earlier was because we had nearly 1000 people on the site at the same time for a while, and then nearly 600 for a while after that. Not sure why there's so much volume today.
2) The Flash photos on the homepage are new. The "Loading...100%" problem (as mentioned earlier in the thread) happens when you are going to http://14ers.com instead of http://www.14ers.com. For now, just enter the full "http://www.14ers.com" url and the problem should go away. I'll take a look into it further - probably just an issue with my Flash program.

Thanks!

A path problem in the Flash/XML files was causing the problem. I just updated it and it should work better.

You may not pick up the change unless you clear your Internet cache/browsing history (you don't need to clear cookies).

For the server slowness problem today, I just increased the number of "persistent" connections on the server. It's just a threshold setting that will make the server go faster for more people at the same time. Once it hits that threshold, some people will notice a slowdown.

They seem to be loading up fine here at home. I wonder if it's something to do with my work computer, though I wouldn't know why unless it is a security setting....

Thanks!
