If anyone has an update or knows how the paved road conditions are and how far up can one go in a car, please let me know. I am taking a friend there who is visiting Colorado and hoping to summit if it is possible. I am not sure how much snow there is with the last storm we had this week.
Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving!.

Re: Current conditions/ road to Pikes Peak
Note the 6 hour road open time in the winter is barely enough time to do an upper Craigs summit (parking at Devils Playground). 1.5 hours driving, 5.0 mile hike, 1200 feet. Half of the altitude is in likely icy talus. I'd set a firm turn-around time of noon. You'll still get great above treeline views if you have to turn around early.
Re: Current conditions/ road to Pikes Peak
I did the same thing two years ago. I arrived at the toll gate at 9 AM and asked the personnel what it would happen if I was late returning to gate that was to close at 3 PM. She said that I would have to pay a fine. So I was in a hurry, parked at Devils Playground and summited Pikes Peak. Lucky me, while at a restaurant/gift shop, I asked one of the rangers if she would be glad to give me and my partner a ride to my vehicle. After she dropped me off at Devils Playground. Then I drove down to the gate and made it all right before 3 PM. Whew!peter303 wrote:Note the 6 hour road open time in the winter is barely enough time to do an upper Craigs summit (parking at Devils Playground). 1.5 hours driving, 5.0 mile hike, 1200 feet.
