Barr Trail A-Frame

Post by Fishert2 »

Anyone have any suggestions for someone wanting to spend the night in the A-frame along the Barr Trail on Pikes Peak? I plan on going middle-end of September and want to not pack too much since I intend to summit and yet not pack too little and regret it the whole night. I intend to bring my dog, Siberian Husky who enjoys cold weather and just tiring her up with me throughout the night. My thought is that the elevation is too high for predators but I am looking to see if anyone has had any issues up there while overnighting? I know there is a stream on site and no "fireplace" inside the shelter, but is there a premade pit nearby or even enough materials to keep a small fire going? And lastly, I know it is a first-come, first-serve kinda deal, but how many people can sleep in there comfortably?
Any suggestions on what was asked above or anything I didn't inquire about is most appreciated. Thanks
