Icy conditions on some routes

Just got back from Lindsey and found some rather treacherous ice (a thin layer of snow over a layer of ice). Since it wasn’t in an exposed area, it was nothing life threatening, but more than one person (whom we didn't know) did slip on it on Saturday, including one lady who banged her leg up pretty good. Although snow in Setepmber happens every year, taking Yak Tracks, Stabilicers or even microspikes is always a good idea.

Such conditions are probably only confined to shadowed routes on north facing slopes right now (Lindsey or the north side routes on the Crestones are ones I can think of), but just in case, it would be a good idea to throw a pair of traction devices in your backpack when heading out this time of year. They really don’t weigh much, so it wouldn’t hurt to carry them.

And this is news?
You have to assume this possibility All The Time when you see snow dusting
and after late August.

No, just a friendly reminder. Snow in September happens every year. I will edit the post, but thought it was pretty clear as to the message.

Yes, that's what the point of the post was.

Just an FYI for those that might need it.

The divide is looking pretty white this morning. I think the snow line was about 11,000 feet last night.

Might as well help remind. Waste of a post IMO.

A post is a terrible thing to waste.

I appreciate the post. I was thinking of doing this one this weekend and may reconsider in favor of something a bit less icy. Thanks for the info! :-D
