Depends what kind of gear, training, and experience you have. Quandary's East Ridge is about as "easy" as it gets for a winter ascent, and if doing that is out of your league, I would be very, very cautious about any 14ers in the next few weeks, given the avalanche danger.TrevorM wrote:Alright thanks for the headsup guys i'l avoid Quandary. I dont mean to hijack this thread, but is there a better peak for someone like me along the sawatch range? From Denver I'm going to be heading SW via 70w, 91s, and 24s toward salida

I agree that "easy" is subjective when it comes to winter 14ers. On a ski descent of Quandary yesterday, my girlfriend dislocated her knee when she hit a patch of slush mixed in with breakable crust snow. Getting her down with thunderstorms looming through knee to waist deep slush resulted in a mini-epic on one of the "easiest" 14ers.
On blue-bird days it can be easy, but things can go wrong quickly and make the simplest of things a nightmare quickly.
Make wilderness less accessible.
