lost backpack Holy Cross (7.4.13)

Postby Blix » Thu Jul 04, 2013 10:33 pm

Please keep an eye out for a backpack on Holy Cross, probably just above 12,200.
The pack contains a Bible, and the owner is hard to reach but is hoping his things will turn up at the trailhead or Minturn ranger station.
Thanks!

Sounds like he set his daypack down and just took a little Camelbak up to the top. I bet he didn't take exactly the same path back down...

I ask myself the same thing whenever I see these threads. I don't think I could go 3 steps before I realized I didn't have my pack.

I tend to read these posts because I learn new ways to lose something.

I never get separated from my pack - I have my PLB in it and other survival gear.

Likewise. PLB + DSLR + extra lense...yeah well over 1k right there. [-(

Ok, for the slow among us.

1. Inexperienced hiker.
2. They are tired and would like to reach the summit.
3. Pack is too heavy even though most of what they need is not in it.
4. A decision is made to leave the heavy pack behind to make reaching the summit easier.
5. They get off the original route on the way down.
6. Then they realize they missed the pack but are too tired to go back up after it.
7. A request is made for someone else to bring the pack down if they see it.

Now you understand.

I'm hiking it tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out. Hiking with two packs might not exactly be ideal. Maybe I'll get some inspiration from the Bible.

Thank you! I hope it's a smallish pack with a lightweight Bible and not much gear.
