First Timer Rituals

Postby Dozer » Wed May 09, 2007 10:00 am

Looking to do my first 14er this summer. The question came up as to whether there is any standard ritual or other rite done when completing the first. Any ideas?

We may pop a "40" in salute to TM, but I'm looking for a running tradition.

Yes. Climb a 2nd peak. Always a good standard ritual after climbing a first.

Personally, I usually bring my Nalgene flask with Jameson Irish whiskey with me to the summit for a celebratory celibation and pass it around to whomever is up there with me. Might have to finish off the Jameson and change it to Capt. Morgan this month, though!

For me, a mini-puja ceremony before the climb to set the heart and mind right, then......drinking details saved until the ENTIRE climb is done and I'm home on the back deck, feet up, watching the sun disappear. 8)

Also, a Pre-climb ritual that I always do (like clockwork) involves a roll of TP, a shovel, the newspaper in good weather, and a few minutes in the woods with my favorite pine tree.

Chris,

Scott was shopping around some TP a little while ago. You might want to see what he has to offer. :D

From now on: A dedicated drink of Mountian Dew.

I carry a flask of 100 proof Hot Dam and take a shot of that. In the winter it warms up the insides.

I like to drink pure bull adrenochrome as a standard summit ritual! If you haven't tried this yet I suggest by starting out with plain old blood first, just to get the feel. I like to drink blood from my sheep skull vessel (see avatar) but it is a little cumbersome on more technical climbs.

Just joking obviously! As a summit ritual try enjoying the fleeting infinite moment while you're up there. It seems more and more rare to me these days to find places where this crazy world we live in can be slowed down and silenced for a moment. Meditation as a ritual.
AHOY! AHOY! I'm captain of my ship!
