My opinion regarding using an herbal supplement is that for the most part you are being ripped off. After working in the supplement industry and currently in the medical field, my impression has greatly canged towards these products. While Ginko has been the only formally studied herbal in relation to AMS, there has not been enough research to back it as conclusive. Further, the FDA does not regulate the herbal/ supplement industry here in the US, so unless the product is manufactured in Western Europe, the ingredient list is probably not accurate on percentages. With that being said, if the supplement makes you feel better while at altitude, than run with it. The brain is a funny thing in that if you believe in the effectiveness of something it will often have some sort of placebo effect.

In regards to Diamox, be careful. If it is something you plan to use make sure you discuss the use, dosage, and effects of the medication with your MD. Diamox is a diuretic, and if used improperly it can make you feel much worse by dropping your blood pressure and disrupting your electrolyte balance.
