I took my 3rd wife to the taping of the Jerry Springer show. Seemed to go over well.

My wife and I went to Banff for our honeymoon. Somewhat of a foreign country, but a beautiful place to hike, bike, canoe, etc.
Banff looks gorgeous!! I think we're going to try to plan for Switzerland but I have officially added Banff to my places to visit list! :)
I wouldn't dismiss Banff from your possible destinations but a few things to think about. Banff in June/early-July is extremely crowded. Many of the trailheads are packed with cars and driving or walking through the town of Banff can be frustrating. It's also a bad time of year for the mosquitoes as well. The Lake Louise area will be a complete zoo. It reminded me a lot of crowds in Yellowstone in summer. I wouldn't restrict yourself to Banff either. We enjoyed Jasper more and the drive up Icefields Parkway is absolutely epic.

If you want to get away from people then backpacking is beautiful but again the mosquitoes can be unreal. We backpacked the Skoki Loop and into the Tonquin Valley and both were thick with bugs. If I went again I would go in early September once things have calmed down. I guess the bugs are better and the crowds have thinned out.

The Big Island in Hawaii.
1. Climb two 13ers
2. Snorkeling and/or scuba diving
3. Hike into the lava flows at Volcano NP
4. It's drier than Kauai
5. Green flash sunsets

2. Lots of skiing.
3. No walking downhill.
4. Fancy pastries and beer at the huts.

+1 for Switzerland

Lauterbrunnen is a great place to use as "base camp": http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/lauterbrunnen.html
