Humphrey Peak in April?

Anyone know where I can find some good snow/weather conditions for Humphrey Peak in AZ?

Visiting a friend in April and thinking about taking a crack at it. I know wikipedia and summitpost mention there could be avalanche risk in winter, but of course we have to critically evaluate conditions accordingly. Any particular spots to watch out for? He's near Phoenix and I think that's about 3 hours from the Flagstaff area?

Any advice would be helpful.

You could try calling the Peaks Ranger Station in Flagstaff.

Also, call any of the outdoor shops in town there, they are usually pretty helpful and often have someone in the store who has recently been up it.

On another note, I tried doing this over Christmas - the day after 3+ft of snow fell. Yes, there is avy risk to be aware of, but if you're planning on the main route,
I was told the ski area doesn't like people walking across the skiing area to climb and have caused problems in the past. Something to think about.

Another shorter climb you could do with no (or very little) avy risk, is Mount Elden, which starts right outside of town with a paved lot across from the mall. It gains about +2,600ft over ~3 miles each way. Shorter yes, but a nice little climb and with a lot of fresh snow (as this past Dec.), it makes for a challenging climb to the 9300ft summit.
