Tahoe Area Ski Resorts
Hey, I'm gonna be in Tahoe for a week and probably going to ski at Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar, free with the epic pass otherwise I would be all over Squaw.. I like trees and steeps so what areas are your favorites? I want to punch as much fun and new terrain as I can into this trip so some guidance on which of the three resorts you like better for I guess "expert" terrain would be helpful and maybe even what lifts you tend to ride the most. And I would be down for a few 20 min hikes but I'm gonna be with a big group with varied skills so my 'me' time on the mountain will be limited to whenever I can get away from the group(I love the group, great bunch of people and thats primarily what I'm there to do, hang out, but ya know I gotta get my fix).

Re: Tahoe Area Ski Resorts
I would spend all my time at Kirkwood. Actually I would spend all of my time at Alpine Meadows (I was a ski patroller there and it is by far my favorite Tahoe resort.) Squaw is my second favorite and Kirkwood my third. Since you are using the Epic Pass it looks like Kirkwood is your best available option. Heavenly and Northstar don't have much challenging terrain and are a lot more crowded.
At Kirkwood, Larry's Lip, The Wave, and Ski School. Kirkwood gets more snow than most of the rest.
If you have to go to Heavenly then Milky Way Bowl, Killebrew Canyon, and Mott Canyon are about as good as it gets there. Also the Lakewood Inn Casino in South Lake used to have $1 drinks which always seemed more fun than skiing Heavenly to me. It's probably out of business now, it was a degenerate establishment.
Mt Tallac and Pyramid peak are classic backcountry tours in the area if you are into that.
Have fun.

Very cool place. Haven't been there in many years, but the couple years I was there, they were open well into the summer.RoanMtnMan wrote:Alpine Meadows (I was a ski patroller there and it is by far my favorite Tahoe resort.)
Summertime skiing was some of the best. Fond memories.
And climbing with Gene Drake and Paul Bancroft at Donner Summit. Incredible place.

The A-Basin or Bridger Bowl of Brahoe indeed. Mt. Rose ain't too bad either. I hope you didn't take a ride down on one of my sleds, I wasn't too skilled at that part .Dancesatmoonrise wrote:Very cool place. Re: Tahoe Area Ski Resorts
The Cali side of Heavenly is awful, except the views at the top. Stick to the Nevada side if you go.
Kirkwood is good , but the steeps seem really short. Alpine Meadows is a lot of fun. It's my favorite of all of the Tahoe resorts.
Mt Rose is a lot of fun. I never really had much fun at Squaw but others swear by it.

Re: Tahoe Area Ski Resorts
yeah just looking at the terrain map I can tell I want to spend most of my time at Kirkwood but I can't say the same for everyone I'm with. I'll have to check out that casino cause this is a discount trip. 1300 for the condo for a week split 17(20 if the dogs had money) ways. gas split 4 ways and skiing free. And to top it off ill have two days of ski in ski out at Vail the day before we drive out, also free. I need to stop thinking about this or its gonna be the longest 8 days of my life (I'm leaving on the 4th). Thanks for the input ill try to check all that out.
