Re: Via Ferrata
congrats on that climb. I have a funny story about Chuck Kroger. I was running my second Hardrock 100 in 2005 and was suffering pretty good coming up out of Telluride at mile 70 something. In 2005 the snow was still pretty high and the runoffs and rivers were all above normal all making for a tougher than normal Hardrock year. It was pretty warm leaving Telluride and we were going up the Bear creek trail and I had my head down and was leaning over some plants. Chuck comes running by with his pacer laughing and joking around and he looks at me and said something like "Rich, if you lean over any further you are going to put your face in that stinging nettle. I had no idea what plant he was talking about and to this day I still don't...I do know what it is like to get stung by one but I always look back and can't identify it.
Chuck was one of the legends at Hardrock that I had heard about and I wish I had known better. My brother in law who lived in Telluride talked highly of him and talked about how Chuck put in that route.
