Sad news.

I looked at the Yosemite NPS website and was able to find this link as well:

http://www.nps.gov/yose/parknews/leeder811.htm

It confirms what that "trip report" described, though with much less graphic detail. JMO, but that writeup was done in extremely poor taste.

CNN is reporting the 17th. Very sad statistic.

I agree. I would be horrified if the victim's family were to read that. I wonder if the OP or Bill shouldn't delete the link.

The OP changed the link to a new one. The original link was a trip report by one of the climbers who witnessed the death. The family are far more likely to read it there, than to find a link to it here. That was a california based link. 14ers.com probably wouldn't be on the families radar anyway I would guess.

I read a Yosemite TR on SuperTopo late Tuesday night and if that's the same one posted here earlier; yes it was awful to read.

That TR is tacky and tasteless.

I always end up disturbed by news such as this for days afterwards ... especially after having climbed Half Dome when the cables were down earlier this summer. While I cannot imagine how those rock climbers must feel, I do regret reading the TR - I'm glad it's been deleted from this site. Prayers ...

Wow. I have a pretty strong stomach, but that SuperTopo TR was unflinching in its matter-of-factness. :-&

The Super Topo one was the only one I had found at the time...

Anyway, it's changed.

Thanks for changing it. I don't think anyone is faulting you for posting it, I am certainly not. But now that there is more out there it is right to pull down that link.

Wow, I just read through the comments on ST thread "Another Soul Lost on Half Dome" and I have got to say I am so glad I spend my time here, the comments over there are just mind bogglingly insensitive and thoughtless. They are leaping to conclusions about suicide and calling the kid who fell weak, selfish etc. Someone posted a picture of the victim and a member chimed in how he looks like a wasted stoner, a couple of them are even arguing about Mexicans. A family member has already stumbled onto the thread and posted nobody so much as batted an eye toward their loss. 167 posts at last check and nobody has said anything about how disgraceful the whole thing is.
