$500 to climb Denali might be steep, but it is still a bargain, considering what Argentines are going to charge every foreigner. The current permit fee for majority of expeditions (between Dec 15 and Jan 31) is 3000 peso, which is about US$754 today. Denali is typically longer and I tend to think our NPS does a better job than its counterpart south of the Equator when it comes to protecting the environment (though some responsibilities on Denali like carrying CMC fall squarely on climbers' shoulders).
