2017 Goals

Post by d_baker »

I don't recall seeing a thread on this, which astounds me since we all like to talk about our dreams and goals!!

Mine:
Lose 20lbs
Finish the Top 100
Help someone else finish the Top 100
Avoid I-70 as much as possible (living in Thornton now)
Spend more time in RMNP & Indian Peaks
Be nicer to Mario.

Get 2 cars into a 2 car garage. Sooooo close!

Oh, and climb and ski some mountains.

Get in shape for spring and summer.
Take the Intro to Ice Climbing class in March with CMS (Xmas present! \:D/)
Cristo, The Edwardian, Dragon's Tail, maybe Shooting Star or Skywalker (or both).
Sneffels.
Finally get to the IPW after saying I would the last 2 years and not doing so.

Finally reach that elusive tenth 14er summit.
Venture into 13er territory more.
Attend the REI Backcountry Navigation class.
Attend Basic Survival class.
Pay more attention to my overall health.
Appreciate the outdoors more.

I am unable to walk away from the mountain without climbing it. An unclimbed mountain tugs at my consciousness with the eternal weight of time itself. Until I've pressed my face into it's alpine winds, hugged it's ancient granite walls, and put it's weathered summit beneath my heal I'm unable to resist it's attraction.Knowing nature gives the mountain more time than she gives us adds urgency to the obsession. As has been said before; the mountain doesn't care.

It can wait forever. I cannot.

Generally, to be happier, but I've already started or intend to:

- cut facebook out of my life (though, admittedly, I went on last night to see the meltdown over the alabama loss, and was IMMEDIATELY reminded why I got off in the first place)
- Find a way out of my current job
- go back to school
- get in better shape
- take the GRE
- read more (technically I started this last year, but due to a change in living situation, it's going to be difficult to keep it up this year)

Also, I want to hike/camp/climb mountains/get into rock climbing

Learn French
Duolingo is good and totally free. Also, Practice Makes Perfect workbooks are good. Pretty cheap on Amazon. I feel like I'm learning pretty well and I'm not that bright.

see the meltdown over the alabama loss
I'm getting way too much enjoyment over this. It's hard to look away.

Goal: eschew schadenfreude. Starting......now.
