14erQuest Summit 11/59, Route 9/42.
Date: Tuesday, Jan 10
Humboldt Peak E Ridge From Rainbow Trail. Used approach skis.
When you do the easy ones in bad weather, they become the hard ones.
On a ridge, solo, in a whiteout with 60mph headwind, all I want to do is turn around. Every step forward is a battle. It's psychological tug-of-war. Emotionally- this is scary, you don't belong here, go home. Logically- you are warm, you have plenty of food and water and clothes, the wind isnt picking you up off the ground yet, you have gps, you have backup gps, you're fine, stay positive, keep moving upward, you got this.

They say, "mountaineering is the art of suffering". I don't think so. If you are suffering, you haven't prepared well enough. I think that mountaineering is the art of managing risk and fear.

Way to get at it! The weather systems we've been experiencing has to make your logistics and scheduling on the next level. Keep your head game strong and know we are rooting for you to do this successfully and safely!
And thanks for the updates, its a good distraction from a slow work week

Any decent report should include date hiked/climbed.

No "14ers . com" sticker on there; It didn't happen!

This is indeed a thrilling thread to distract me from my own inability to climb many major mountains in the winter. Keep up the reports and let's see some more photos!

Easy buddy, there are better ways to follow his quest than this site including the information you seek.rijaca wrote:

Say bro, since Mr Stoke announced here on this site that he intended to boldly go where no one has gone before, I thought I could follow his progress here.gspup wrote:Easy buddy, there are better ways to follow his quest than this site including the information you seek.rijaca wrote:
