What is your greatest fear when hiking?

Postby awake » Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:03 am

Title says it all. Had an interesting discussion with a friend the other day, and I'm curious to see other people's thoughts.

Obviously, fears will vary from hike to hike. But as a general rule, what do you usually fear the most?

I've met people who were hit by lightning (who survived), seen hair stand on end too many times, and heard ice axes and trekking poles buzz. Lightning is my #1 fear while in the mountains.

But I also don't like situations where I'm not confident in my attachment to rock.

That's why you should only poop on the summit.

I gotta go with lightning on this one... A close second would be falling for me. However, with that said... The "Marmot Huddle" pic seriously made me reconsider my list
