I thought it was a yellow pond lilly because it was near water but the leaves don't quite match up... so unknown unless someone can identify it. I believe it is pollinated by a species of fly.

I believe that is a mule's ear daisy. I saw hundreds by Sopris in the Elks a few weeks ago.

My 14er addiction very quickly turned into a wildflower identifying addiction. I spend way more time rolling around on the ground with my camera looking for good angles on wildflowers, than actually summiting anything.

Here are a few I took up Missouri gulch a week and a half ago.

Columbine, of course, in front of Belford

Not sure about this one. Any help?

Then, I found these delicate beauties on my climb up Mt. Sopris.

^^^ Thank you! I really wanted to know what it was. ( :

Was this a Canon L Lens used. The contrast and depth of field look great???

the wildflowers here in CB are some of the best i've seen in awhile. Whole hillsides full of sunflowers, huge lupines and various other flowers. The flowers haven't really come out that much in the high alpine yet. I should be taking some pictures

Well, thanks! I shoot with a Canon XTi Rebel, and it's a basic EFS 18-55mm lens. Pretty basic stuff. Saving for fancier!

@ajkagy -- think high alpines will be out in couple weeks? Heading to CB July 26-29, hoping to catch some color.

Looks like western wallflower, Erysimum capitatum. Most of the pictures you find on the web will show yellow or golden flowers, but there are populations at high altitude in CO that have purple flowers. I saw them along the road on Mt. Antero, among other places.

That looks like the exact spot I was referencing above about the mule's ear daisies - the Mt. Sopris Trailhhead. I took this photo of the same field.

Thanks! Funny, I had seen that one in orange in my ID book and thought it looked similar but was thrown off by the color.
