This month's issue of Backpacker magazine has plenty of information regarding bears and what to do in this scenario. Good stuff...

If I remember right, this bear had some sort of skin condition that caused the hair loss. In any case, it looks pretty ugly!

Un-bear-able to look at.

Correct. Recently saw this on Reddit, and I realized that I never actually thought about how a bear would look like without hair. Definitely would make me  if I ever saw one.

If I saw a creature like that, I'd grin and bear it.

I'd take a grainy photo and post it in the Bigfoot! thread is indisputable proof.
“There are two kinds of climbers: those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest.” - Alex Lowe

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Looks like a cross between and elephant and a bear.

Would that be a "bear-a-phant" or an "ele-bear"?
