Looking for nice place for a few days in the Mountains

Postby Cheaton6 » Thu Dec 27, 2012 7:04 pm

I am looking to get away for a couple of days up into the mountains. I am trying to stay away from the ski towns as much as possible, I am not much of a skier and its to crazy this time of year in most of those towns. Instead we would probably go snowshoeing or exploring around Does anybody have any suggestions of a nice place to stay ( looking for hotel or cabin, not planning on camping) that is within about 2 hours of Denver? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

YMCA of the Rockies is nice. It's near Estes Park. The cabins are fun and they have some newer models available.

We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

We spent Christmas at the Redstone Inn a few years back and rented snowshoes from the general store - great place to stay and not crazy expensive. Also really enjoy Glenwood Hot Springs lodge in winter.

Located at the former 10th Mountain Division Camp Hale site I recommend Pando Cabins. We stayed there a few years back and loved it.

Although I've not rented a cabin Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is nice...

Rent a yurt in the middle of nowhere near Steamboat (about an hour away from the ski area) and snowshoe and BC ski to your heart's content and stay in relative comfort at night:

There are little cabins and yurts at Golden Gate State park….

+1 on the YMCA cabins in Estes, winter is a great time to visit.

Devils Thumb Ranch (Tabernash) is a really nice place with lots of winter activates … it is not cheap though

I was up there (never summer nordic) two weekends ago and they didn't have a ton of snow. Hopefully they have more now. We were able to snowshoe, but bc skiing might not be great.

They are great huts though. Had a great time.

+1 to YMCA of the Rockies and Mt Princeton Hot Springs. Winter Park would be a nice area as well for what you're looking for.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs outside of Steamboat could be nice.

If you decide you would consider staying in Silverthorne, we stayed in an amazing place last year. It was a very nice 1 bed/studio condo. It even had a 2 person Sauna inside it. Best of all, it was only $100.00/night. Let me know if you are interested.
