If marmots ever bore you ...

Postby Rarefied » Sat Nov 03, 2012 2:42 pm

So you say marmots no longer intimidate you. Well, you can up your game with this from today's WSJ:

"... you could do worse than to visit Ethiopia's Simien Mountains. .... a 37-mile-long basalt escarpment staggered between altitudes of 10,000 and 15,000 feet. The area is populated by supersize plants, boisterous monkey armies 500-strong ..."

"... but nothing prepares you for their numbers ... and this group lived up to its billing and quickly grew. Soon I was standing in mute astonishment as a chattering mob of 200 or so monkeys headed toward us. The alpha males, sporting leonine incisors and rock-star manes ..."

Fortunately, going by the author's subsequent commentary, they sound like they are actually pretty benign. Still, it's probably not a place where you would want to take your dog. (Oh, Oh! Now I've done it! )

It begs the question: Has anyone ever tried to punt a monkey?

Have you ever wanted to punt a monkey?

Is there a thread on 14ers.com about monkey punting?

And what routes are appropriate for monkeys?
Because life's too short to be an indoor cat.

When you go to Nepal to climb in the Himalaya, you go through Katmandu.
Make sure you go to the monkey temple. A Buddhist temple, of course.
Monkeys everywhere! The place is amazing. The monkeys are hilarious. Lots of stairs to walk up.
Although you aren't supposed to pet the monkeys.
The marmot said “Nobody is perfect and you are not nobody.”
